Our mission is to promote awareness of dystonia, the third most common movement disorder in the United States. Our goal is to provide a platform where patients and their families can learn about dystonia, its symptoms, and its treatments.
We are working with policy makers to foster a world where dystonia is recognized as a federally-listed disability, one wherein affected patients can locate and arrange for the custom treatment necessary to improve their individual case and quality of life.
Down with Dystonia is made possible By Patients, For Patients in conjunction with families and specialists. Together, we are creating a roadmap to wellness for those struggling with dystonia and its effects, enhancing their quality of life and giving hope for the future.
Our founder, Devin McClernan (pictured) was diagnosed with dystonia at the age of thirteen. In 2014, he directed a short film for the Neuro Film Festival, “Dystonia Devin”, and was awarded Grand Prize. He now works as a filmmaker and advocate in Los Angeles, California.
This is Nia, a conceptual art installation! Simulating brain patterns with a stimulating light display, we plan to share her at events across the country in an effort to promote awareness for neurological wellness and education.
James Yuransky‘s time and wisdom have been critical in each stage of Down with Dystonia’s development. His talent for connecting people through art is a valuable asset now and forever. We’re honored to have him on our team. (pictured:Cosmic Hug)
